Tips & FAQ

Licensing

  • ANDRA licensing is required for all competitors and all competitors must have or have held a civil street license
  • If you do not hold an ANDRA licence you will be required to purchase an ANDRA DDL.
  • Forms can be downloaded from the online services found at the ANDRA Website, www.andra.com.au or see the ANDRA steward.
  • To race at any National event you must hold a current ANDRA Licence.

Minimum protective equipment required

  • Motor vehicles: require long trousers, long sleeve shirt or jacket, shoes and socks and an approved helmet relevant to the vehicle class.
  • Motor cycles: require long pants, approved motorcycle jacket, gloves, boots and an approved helmet, as above.
  • Approved helmets (depending on the class of car) are listed here
  • All other ANDRA safety requirements will be enforced.

Competitor Parking

Competitors will be provided access to the pits but we ask that all trailers are removed once you have unpacked. We also ask that no more than one tow car per team remain in the pit area to minimise congestion. Brackets are required to pit within close proximity of each other to ensure Bracket Marshals can easily access competitors in their bracket. A pit and parking layout is available to download here.

Auditing

The ANDRA ESP Auditing process applies. A random selection of ANDRA permanent license holders and all competitors with an ANDRA Divisional Drag License (DDL) will be audited (previously known as scrutineered) at all events. All competitors will be required to complete the ESP Audit Form. This will simplify the auditing process.

All vehicles must comply with relevant ANDRA class and safety regulations and must be presented for auditing when requested.

The onus is on the competitor to ensure that the vehicle has been fully audited and passed, and the competitor has the right to request some mark or sticker denoting this, and in the ANDRA Log Book.

Qualifying

All Drivers / riders are required to record at least one qualifying run to be seeded into the Bracket. However if a Driver / Rider does not record a qualifying run, they may be seeded into the bracket and they must occupy the lowest qualifying position.

Once a bracket has been seeded, no further qualifying runs are permitted.

Exhibition brackets or special grouping of vehicles of any or all vehicles may be arranged by the HVDRA Club, vehicles involved must conform to the rules in the normal manner.

Bracket Seeding

Unless the Meet Director has been informed prior to the closure of the qualifying sessions, it will be assumed you will be competing and will be seeded accordingly. No re-seeding of brackets will take place.

Lane Choice

In the first round of racing, lane choice will go to the competitor in each how pairing with the higher qualifying position. For subsequent rounds, lane choice will go the competitor in each pairing with the lowest 'dial in' for that round in question.

Bye Runs

Are to be allocated, at the time of seeding, where the field is of an uneven number, to the highest qualifier in round one, the next highest qualifier in round two and so on.

Solo Runs

Solo runs may occur where a competitor is unable to fire / start at the direction of the Race Director. Vehicles / bikes unable to respond to the call on reaching the head of the staging lanes will take no further part in that round, and their opponent will receive a solo run.

Where two solo runs occur in a seeded round, both competitors will race each other and both will receive a win.

Number of Rounds:

Where there are low numbers of competitors, up to five rounds of racing may occur in some Brackets. Bracket Marshals are advised to seed five rounds for Street Cars, Super Street and Street Bike at the time of seeding the field before Racing begins. The Meeting Director will determine the actual number of rounds of racing during the Event and will advise the Bracket Marshals accordingly.

Can I remove my exhaust?

While HVDRA may have promoted the use of open exhausts on Street and Super Street cars in the past, it has been found this is against ANDRA rule 4.1.4 which reads:

All vehicles in Super Street eliminator and all vehicles fitted with rotary engines not using turbochargers will be required to use effective muffling devices limiting noise levels to 98 dba measured at 30 meters.

This includes all vehicles running 11.00 and slower.

Competitors at Hidden Valley International Drag Strip will now be required to use muffling devices on all Street and Super Street class vehicles at both competition and Off Street events in line with ANDRA rules.

Can I dial outside my bracket?

No, all nominated dialins must be within the bracket cut offs.

What happens if I run faster than 10.99 in my car?

After recent queries by entrants on when they must adhere to all safety, licensing and other requirements associated with running 10.99sec or quicker in a vehicle the following clarification has been received from ANDRA:

"There is no grace for competitors running 10.99 or quicker ....Always remember that once a vehicle has run 10.99 or quicker they have a ‘known performance’ of being this quick. Our rules state that once a vehicle has this ‘known performance’ that they must meet the appropriate requirements. These must also be met before they are then permitted to compete at any further events.

People have continually stated that the "air was good" or that "they’ll turn of the NOS", but the vehicle has proved it is capable of running these times and must meet the rules and regulations pertaining to this performance level."

Therefore as of 24 September 2007, HVDRA will not allow NOS to be disabled, tyres to be changed, boost to be lowered, or other modications made to reduce the performance of the vehicle simply to circumvent these important safety rules unless otherwise stated by ANDRA in writting.

Once a vehicle has run 10.99sec or quicker the vehicle will not be able to enter any further events, including Off Street events and Test & Tunes, until all requirements are fulfilled.

Competitors may be asked to immediately withdraw from an event at the meet directors discression.

Details on the requirements that need to be fulfilled may be obtained from the ANDRA Drag Racing Official Rule Book.

How much is it for pit crew

Pit crew are the same price as a spectator entry.

What to do on the night

Drivers and pit crew are to sign the ANDRA forms at the top gate before receiving your wristbands. If you are not wearing a wristband you may be removed from the restricted area.

When you get to the track, complete your competitor/crew credentials at the top gate and follow the road into the pits. Unless you have work to do it is advisable to get into the line up for scrutineering as soon as possible.

After going through scrutineering and having a race number allocated, sit back, relax and wait for the staging lanes to open. If you have a free minute, see if an official needs a hand.

Drive your car into the staging lanes. Make note of where the race director and officials tell you to line up and remember to keep the centre Emergency lane free at all times.

After completing the run, return via the main Hidden Valley straight. Remember if you are in Lane 1 (closest to the spectators) give way to the driver to your right, in Lane 2. Don't try to cross his path until safe to do so. There is always the possibility that he may not stop. Stay to the left of the return road. If you believe you are dropping fluid do not venture onto the return road, pull over to the side and the fire marshals will assist you. Oil on the Hidden Valley circuit means costly repairs to the bitumen surface.
